Here at Precision Dental in Rotherham, we believe in team work, sharing the same important goal that is to look after your mouths to the best of our ability and provide you with dental care that is second to none.
Lots of people forget about the importance of their gums. Gums are the foundations that keep your teeth in place and healthy gums lead to stronger teeth, this is especially important as you get older. There is also growing evidence that poor dental hygiene and oral health is linked to heart disease, which in Rotherham is still significantly worse than the England average. Gum disease also has links to unstable diabetes and dementia. So coming to see your dental hygienist for a regular oral health check is really important to ensure that your gums stay healthy and your general health too.
I know as dental hygienists we seem to nag you but we can’t do it on our own you have to join the team. What you do every day to keep your teeth and gums clean is key.
So here are a few reminders:
- Brush your teeth and gums twice a day at night and at one other time using fluoride toothpaste.
- Spit out the remaining toothpaste but don’t rinse it away with water or mouthwash as we need to keep the fluoride from the toothpaste in the mouth as this helps to protect your teeth.
- Clean in-between your teeth with your little brushes or floss at least every other day. Daily is best but I don’t want to appear too greedy!!
Finally, as the year draws to an end I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.
